Hi Friends! July 4th is just around the corner. I decided it was about time to get a little bit in the patriotic spirit around here!
I like to purchase a few new plants for each holiday and of course these cute red Pentas are perfect!
Head over and see what I did with them and my little bit of repurposed patriotic decor!
Do you decorate for the 4th? I don’t go all crazy but love a bit of red white and blue touches here and there.
This project started out with some old pink crib rails that I got three, yes three years ago at a garage sale. I purchased this armoire for 20 bucks and the lady asked if I wanted the crib to go along with it. It has been one of those items that has sat and sat until finally this week inspiration struck!
Note: the crib is way out of recall league and I only had one side rail so it couldn’t be used again for a baby bed.
I measured out my red and white striped lines with our large T-Square tool and marked the lines with a pencil – very scientific!
I then painted in all of the rails with leftover Annie Sloan Paints: Napoleonic Blue, Emperors Silk and Old White.
With every stroke of slowly painting straight lines on the round curvy spindles, I may or may not have been cursing the fool that thought it would be a good idea to do so! It was not an easy task. Luckily it didn’t need to be too perfect as you will see below in the closeup pics.
Bright and beautiful but not the look I was going for so I gently wiped on some stain to darken up it a bit.
I like the way it turned out – a little chippy, a bit rustic and a bit imperfect.
It’s a beautiful Patriotic addition to our home.
I hope you are inspired to try some!<div align=”center”><a href=”http://www.thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com/” title=”TDC Before and After” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://www.homestoriesatoz.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/beforeAndAfterButton_thumb1.gif” alt=”TDC Before and After” style=”border:none;” /></a></div>
What a clever idea. I love it!
I didn't see this Saturday! Cute!!!!
I love this crib makeover. LOL, so pretty and I would buy this for sure.
