There are no words to describe the satisfaction you get when you turn a decrepit, smell, scratched up old furniture and turn it into a gorgeous white painted Christmas hutch your family will enjoy for years to come!
Here’s my beautiful hutch all decorated for Christmas! Spoiler Alert! It sold in three days for a ridiculous amount! I was so excited.
What I Started With
While I’m really excited how it turned out, you won’t believe how this looked when I first laid eyes on it! Well, you HAVE to see WHY. It was in such a shabby shape to begin with, but I insisted on giving it a chance!
Be sure and scroll to see the before and more gorgeous after pics. Oh and Merry Christmas!!!!…
Can you believe I only paid $30 for it?
Pathetic, right? And even more pathetic and gross when I puked figured out that it reeked of rat pee!!!
Ewww! (please don’t tell)
What I did to transform it into a beautiful Christmas hutch
The first thing I did was spray it down with a hose. After that, I kicked out ALL of the panels and shelves, only leaving a shell. Next I let it sit out in the heat and sun for about a week.
Here’s a closer look at the damage.
I then scrubbed the remaining pieces with TSP. The stuff works wonders. It gets the smell out, the grime out and anything yuck out!
Savogran 10621 Trisodium Phosphate (TSP) 1LB Liquid TSP Substitute CleaneKRUD KUTTER Concentrate Cleaner/Degreaser
I then replaced the all of the shelves in the cabinet and added new boards to the entire back of the dresser and hutch. What a difference!
I sanded and primed the entire piece with Zinzer Primer.
Then I sanded and re-stained the top with my favorite Minwax Dark Walnut.
I chose a white chalk like paint for the rest.
As mentioned before, the entire back has new birch boards – a major improvement!
Wow! Already looking fantastic:)
But my favorite extra touch is the distressing. Here’s a quick video on distressing furniture:
And now it’s unrecognizable!
Oh! Of course, it looks amazing all decked out for Christmas, doesn’t it? I sure hope its new owner enjoys it for many more Christmases to come!
Here’s one last look at the before and after this amazing transformation!
Merry Christmas!
Oh, you’ll LOVE this coffee filter angel wings tutorial! Add these to your home for a better Christmas.
That’s fantastic!
Looks Beautiful! Glad to see you’re still turning garbage into beauty (it’s been a long while since I’ve visited)….I’ll be around more to watch you work your magic 🙂

Absolutely stunning!! Thanks for the reminder about TSP – I’d forgotten that little gem. 🙂
