Christmas Sock Wreath

This week as I am breaking out the Christmas decor I decided to refresh you with some old Curb Alert! posts from 2011 Christmas Season.
Here is a silly favorite:
Silly Sock Christmas Wreath!
You can find the original post HERE
Ever wonder what to do with all of those Christmas socks that you have?  You know, the ones that you get in your stocking every year from Santa but rarely wear?

While perusing the never ending addiction  Pinterest I found a cute idea that linked me over to the

Work in Progress Kits blog.  Here is the inspiration wreath:

Although I admit hers looks much more professional than mine, I will boast that I used everything on hand costing me whopping $0!

Here’s what I did:
I gathered all of my Christmas socks…I still saved two pairs for those just in case days that I need to look cute and Christmasy.  And I am sure Santa will bring me more anyway!

Searched for a wreath form couldn’t find one -darnit! so I grabbed a pool noodle and duct tape from the garage.

Snipped the toe off of each Christmas sock (Please note that none of MyLove’s Christmas socks were harmed in the making of this wreath, as he likes his silly socks!):
Gathered the socks around the pool noodle, formed the noodle into a ring and then taped it:
So quick and easy and in a matter of minutes I was able to fluff them into a wreath!  Buttercup loves it and is asking for me to hang it in her room.  I’m thinking what a great idea to do with all of the kiddo socks and let them make the wreaths themselves 🙂
And here is the finished wreath!
What do you think?
Okay, looking back at this project I probably would not do it again this year for 2012-although I do think it was a great idea at the time.  The reason…there is a major need for socks this time a year, especially with the recent unexpected circumstances such as Hurricane Sandy.
If you have any extras laying around, please send them over to the folks at “Socks for Sandy”
Well, I’m sure the need is for NEW socks, so if you have any to send please keep in mind…
My heart goes out to them as I know what it’s like to have your community hurt by the forceful power of nature as many of our friends lost their homes years ago during Hurricane Ike.

  1. Wow! Super cute and super creative. I honestly collect cute socks (ooo a new idea of a post) but I don't have any Christmas socks! Okay, I must now start collecting holiday socks so I can eventually do this wreath! Hahaha~

Haven’t found many curbside treasures lately, the rain has really put a damper on my treasure hunting!

  3. I LOVE this idea! BUT………I think of all the cold lil tootsies out there that could use a pair of socks, Christmas or not. Also, what can the cut off toes become? I have been known to pinch craft materials til they squeal!!! I TRY to leave nothing behind when recycling, if at all possible! TFS your FAB idea!!!! Maybe if I donate a new pair of woolie tootsie covers for every toe I cut out of a perfectly good pair of Holiday footwear I would feel a little better in my heart.
    Thanks for listening. Chelle

  4. Thank you! and trust me, with 4 kiddos I donate TONS of clothes to charities continuously! I even call them to come by even more than scheduled, and you know how I hate to throw anything away since I am constantly swiping off of other peoples' curbs! Hate to see anything go to waste! I was thinking of sewing all of the sock toes into those cute little handwarmers that I have seen all over the blogs, what do you think?
